Retro Look | Una

Hey Friends! I hope you had a nice weekend, I’m back this week with a full face makeup look. I will be doing my take on the classic retro look; winged eyeliner paired with a red lip. As you know, I am new this whole blogging thing so apologies that my pictures will not show me applying the products. Instead I hope this inspires you to create your own retro look, don’t forget to show us your looks in the comments below by linking us to your own blogs, YouTube channels or even photos. 🙂 IMG_20150801_105207777 The first thing I do before applying any makeup is prime. I am definitely an advocator for using primers and my favourite type is silicon based to give that matte finish like Benefit’s Porefessional or in this case The Body Shop’s Matte It. Next I apply my Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Collection’s Lasting Perfection Concealer for that all over flawless look but if it’s a hot day I would recommend just using the concealer. Don’t want that makeup melting off in the heat now!

Products used: No.7 Blush (Coral Flush), The Body Shop Matte Me primer, Collection lasting perfection concealer Deep 4, MaxFactor Lipstick number 1, Urban Decay Primer Potion, & Sleek Contour Kit in Dark.

I then move onto my eyes, I prefer a matte, natural base to ensure all the focus is on my rouge lips. I sweep Naked from the Urban decay palette across my lid then in the socket run the contour shade of my Sleek Contour Kit. Having a darker skin tone does sometimes make it difficult to find a dark enough brown shade that is matte so that’s why I use a contour colour instead. Before I move onto my eyeliner, I tightline my eyelid with a khol eye pencil (from Maxfactor)  and usually I would run a white eyeliner along my waterline, however, I seem to have misplaced mine… I prefer then to use gel eyeliner with an angled brush to apply the bold eyeliner on the top of my lip. I recommend trying to keep a thin line at first and building up the line if you prefer a thicker winged look. In past years I have used liquid eyeliners which are great but they tended to irritate my eyes sometimes!   I then apply my mascara to finish the eyes off. IMG_20150801_104401 For the face, I would do a light contour using my Sleek kit once again focusing on the hollows of my cheeks and under my chin. I hope to do a full, step-by-step contour explanation in the future; comment below if you would like to see this! I then move on to highlighting either with Benefit’s high beam or the one in the contour kit. I finish off with a blush, here using Coral Flush by No. 7. Now onto the lips! There are a whole range of red lipsticks out there it is quite overwhelming. I would recommend Ruby Woo by MAC as an all time classic, I would be using that here but unfortunately I lost it on a night out *sobs*. Nevertheless, with every cloud is a silver lining in the form of Rimmel’s Kate Moss lipstick in the number 01. This gives the most rich red colour my camera does not do it justice and it is MUCH more moisturising compared to Ruby Woo. IMG_20150801_105140381 So that’s it! That’s my take on the classic eyeliner and red lip look. I hope you are enjoying more of our makeup looks, let us know below in the comments what other looks you would like to see. Bye for now! Una x
