MAC Retro Review | Kajal

Hi everyone 🙂 Today I will be reviewing my favourite lipstick at the moment, Mac’s Retro.

Mac Retro (9)
L-R: Amorous, Retro, Russian Red

This lipstick and Amorous have been my favourite lipsticks for winter so far!

Just like Amorous, Retro is a Satin finish. It has a lovely vanilla smell, and is incredibly easy to apply and wear. My lips are really dry, so satins are definitely more forgiving than matte shades like Russian Red.

Although in the photo above most of these lipsticks look pretty similar, you can see from the swatches that they are quite different:

I’d say Retro is a dark, warm reddish-brown. Amorous leans more towards purple, and Russian Red is clearly a brighter, truer red.

The question is, does it live up to the name? I think it does give a sense of the ‘Old Hollywood’ red lip, but because my lips are so pigmented it looks more like a nude on me!

For my darker skin-tone, I find Retro to be a good replacement for something like Taupe which completely washes me out.

It’s a good everyday shade for my skin-tone, but you can easily dress it up for a night out. I’d recommend pairing it with a warm gold eyeshadow – it works really well with Amber Lights!

I’d definitely recommend this shade for winter.

What shade have you been wearing this winter? Let us know!
