POREfessional vs Matte Skin Primer | Una

Hey friends! Hope you are all well, today I am reviewing Benefits’ POREfessional. I know there are so many reviews about this product but I am going to be comparing it to my well loved Matte Skin Primer by The Body Shop. So let’s get started and don’t forget to let me know if you think there are any better primers out there!

Colour: As you can see from the picture POREfessional is a nude colour whilst the Matte Skin Primer is translucent. Because of the colour, I was scared that POREfessional would leave an ashy finish on my face but once blended in there is no showing of the nude colouring on my face. This means it is perfectly suitable for any skin tone.

Consistency: Even though POREfessional is a lot thicker than the Matte Skin Primer, it sinks into the skin way faster than The Body Shop product. This was a great plus for me as when I use the Matte Skin Primer it takes a while to be absorbed. So if you’re in a rush it can sometimes leave a greasy layer on your face. Both products, however, are silicon based but it is definitely more obvious in the Matte Skin Primer. Once leaving the primers to be absorbed onto the face there was no clear difference between the two.

Wear Test: I wear a long lasting foundation (and you can see my review here) so I wouldn’t say lasting power has been extended in using these products. Plus, I don’t think either products are promoted to enhance your make-ups’ staying power. POREfessional is said to minimise the appearance of pores. Frankly, I have never seen anyone and thought ‘OMG s/he has huge pores’. I believe they have created a non-existent problem that now everyone wants solve. Matte Skin Primer on the other hand is great for giving that matte look so much so I rarely use a powder to remove any shininess. But now the trend is to have a dewy face which this primer removes and then you have to add with highlighters.

Price: POREfessional retails at £24.50 for 22ml and the Matte Skin Primer is priced at £12.00 for 25ml. The Matte Skin Primer has lasted me over a year with recreational usage. Please also note that I got a 3ml sample of POREfessional and that has actually lasted me a month!

I wouldn’t say I prefer one product over the other. I believe it is all down to personal preference, so if you think POREfessional are minimising your problematic pores go ahead and buy away!  If you want extra help in mattifying your face I definitely recommend the Matte Skin Primer. It is cheap and lasts ages. Til’ next time, bye! Una X

  1. I’ve tried Porefessional too – but it doesnt seem to glide and stay on as well on my skin.. it kind of flakes up for me and you can see it small rolled up flakes in with my foundation. I’ve heard that YSL’s blur primer was really good and feels as smooth as Porefessional too! Without the colour of it, so it’s just matte. Thanks for sharing, and do check out my blog too!

    1. Oh that is so unusual, I totally understand why you wouldn’t like it then! I’ll be sure to check out the YSL primer once mine are all finished but I’m also interested in the Smashbox matte primer too – so many choices! Glad you enjoyed the post 🙂 Una x
